Laparoscopic prolapse surgery
Prolapse happens when the structures that support the organs in a woman’s pelvis weaken. This can result in the uterus, bladder and/or rectum drooping down causing bothersome symptoms of a bulge or fullness in the vagina. Sexual, bowel and bladder function is often affected. No surgery is needed if symptoms are mild. Surgery can be a good option for patients who don’t get better with initial conservative measures (e.g vaginal pessary or pelvic floor muscle exercise) and in those with advanced prolapse.
Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (LSC) is a type of surgery done to correct prolapse by restoring pelvic support and normal function. It is one of a number of laparoscopic surgeries that can be done for treatment of prolapse. The Laparoscopic or “key hole” approach offers the advantage of a short hospital stay, minimal pain and quick recovery.
Evidence suggests that a sacrocolpopexy might offer more durable and satisfactory results compared to other types of treatment for prolapse. Find out today if this is the best treatment option for you.
